This is a German company that has been in the market for many years. The company was founded in Stein, near Nuremberg, by Kaspar Faber in 1761. Faber Castell focuses on school and office products such as pencils, pens, markers, watercolors, and many other things.

This company has been in business for 8 generations, and since 1978, it has been managed by Count Anton Wolfgang von Faber-Castell. The Count passed away recently (at the time of writing this article) at the age of 74 on January 21, 2016, after suffering from a painful illness. He is succeeded by his widow, Countess Mary von Faber-Castell, and his eldest son, Count Charles von Faber-Castell.

One of the curiosities of this brand is that Faber Castell made the pencil the world's first branded writing tool. Another curious fact is that the name comes from two families, two surnames: Ottilie von Faber and Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen.

The company states that all Faber-Castell products are manufactured using environmentally friendly and sustainable processes and materials. For example, the company only uses wood from its own forest within a reforestation and conservation project in Brazil. Here, they plant and cultivate their own trees in areas that were deforested and subject to erosion. Faber-Castell even recycles waste from pencil production to use it as fertilizer for the soil.
