Curiosities of onyx carbon film paper

Onyx carbon film paper

Carbon paper (also called tracing paper, transfer paper, or carbon copy paper in some countries) is a sheet that allows simultaneous copies to be made when using typewriters, impact printers, or simply handwriting. How is carbon paper used? Carbon paper is used by inserting it between the original document and the copy. The operating principle is very simple. The pressure exerted on the original sheet transfers the ink to the copy.

How is carbon paper made?

For the manufacture of carbon paper, a thin sheet of paper impregnated on one side with a layer of dry ink is used, then covered with wax. The wax undergoes a refining treatment to remove resins and is then mixed with an absorbent to contain the ink and prevent stains.

Why does paper contain carbon?

Cellulose fiber extracted from wood or cotton is the main component of paper. Paper contains 27% carbon, to which must be added the carbon emitted during the production phases.

What material can onyx paper be used on?

Tracing paper can be used on various types of surfaces: paper, metal, wood, glass, fabric, and canvas. Unwanted lines can be removed with an eraser.
