The chalk eraser is an ideal tool for restaurants. Menus change daily, and with this eraser, you can reset your menu every day. It consists of a firm wooden or polypropylene handle to which a small felt pad is attached. Invented around 1863 by John L. Hammett, owner of some stores that sold and created school supplies in Rhode Island and later in Boston, he did so to replace the "cut cloths" or even "old rags" that were used to erase and remove chalk marks from blackboards in schools, offices, and other places. It is cleaned by striking the felt part of the eraser with a ruler, or by hitting it against a wall.
