What is the Bates 550c Stapler like?

PartsThe manual Bates 550c Stapler consists of four articulated elements mounted on an axle:
  • The base, which has two figures that guide the ends of the staple to bend them properly, either by bringing them together or separating them.
  • The staple loader, which has two slots at its end: the upper one, through which the cutter enters; and the lower one, through which the staple exits.
  • The pusher, inserted into the loader, which slides on a rod and is actuated by a spring to push the staples towards the slot.
  • The cover, which incorporates a cutter that, when lowered, drives the first staple from the loader into the paper.

A SHORT HISTORY

In numerous accounts appearing since the second half of the 20th century, the invention of the first stapler is attributed to French artisans, manufactured in the 18th century for King Louis XV of France. According to some sources, each staple was inscribed with the monarch's insignia or even with gems. Other versions claim it was a device that used fasteners decorated with the royal seal. This story originated from statements by Jack Linsky, inventor of a stapler model and founder of the Swingline company; however, apart from this reference, there is no mention of such an artifact, which seems unlikely. In the 19th century, the increasing use of paper created a demand for an efficient stapler. On August 7, 1866, the Novelty Patent Office patented the Noveltlirtsen stapler, which was primarily used for stapling documents or books, but also carpets, furniture, and boxes.**Images may be references and examples of the producthttps://youtu.be/y8CZ4t2ARQM
