Faber-Castell pencils are divided into "H" and "B". "H" pencils are harder pencils with a light stroke, and "B" pencils are soft pencils with a darker stroke. "F" and "HB" pencils are the midpoint of the pencils. The HB - Faber-Castell pencil has a lead that is a mix of soft and hard; we could say it's a 0 on the scale, leaning towards soft. It's the most commonly used for taking notes as it allows for consistent and clear writing without leaving marks on the paper. A pencil with a lead made with more clay mixed with graphite is a more resistant pencil. They are distinguished, on the one hand, by the letters H and B, and on the other hand, by a number from 1 to 4, with 4 being the hardest.
