What material is gesso used on? 

First white primer coat that does not yellow, with a matte, opaque finish, ready to prepare supports (canvas, wood, paper, cardboard, brick, cement, stone, among others) for all techniques (oil, acrylic, acrylic paint, vinyls, among others). It is applied directly without diluting onto the support. Clean tools with water. Do not add water to the same container if diluting; mix separately. NON-TOXIC. 

 What is gesso for? 

Gesso is a very good material for preparing our painting supports and should be used primarily for two reasons. The first is to protect the support and the second is to improve the paint's adherence to the support.  And, on the other hand, it helps preserve the properties of the oil. Since, if we apply the oil directly to the raw canvas, as we said, the canvas will absorb the oil. Thus, the oil undergoes an alteration in the oil/pigment ratio, which negatively affects the oxidation or drying process of the paint. And therefore, it has a very high chance of cracking or crumbling directly into pieces. So, gesso is a primer that can be applied to various supports such as wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, or a wall. It serves to protect and improve the connection between the support and the medium to be used.
