What material is gesso used on? 

First white (primer) layer that does not yellow, with a matte finish, opaque, ready to prepare supports (canvas, wood, paper, cardboard, brick, cement, stone, among others) for all techniques (oil, acrylic, acrylic paint, vinyls, among others). It is applied directly undiluted on the support. Clean tools with water. Do not add water to the same container if diluting; mix separately. NON-TOXIC. 

 What is gesso used for? 

Gesso is a very good material for preparing our painting supports and should be used primarily for two reasons. The first is to protect the support and the second is to improve the paint's adhesion to the support.  And, on the other hand, it helps to preserve the properties of the oil. Since, if we apply the oil directly to the raw canvas, as we said, the canvas will absorb the oil. So the oil undergoes an alteration in the oil/pigment ratio, which harms the oxidation or drying process of the paint. And therefore, it has a very high chance of cracking, or directly falling apart in pieces. So gesso is a primer that can be applied to various supports such as wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, or a wall. And it serves to protect and improve the connection between the support and the medium to be used.
