Synthetic cork-rubber sheeting is one of the finest and most flexible raw materials available.  One of the main virtues of this material: it is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator. Being very non-porous, it has a low capacity to transmit cold, heat or sound (it can reduce noise by up to 50%). This makes it a very suitable material for covering floors, ceilings or walls.  

What are cork sheets made of? 

Natural cork is extracted from the bark of cork oaks. Cork is the bark of the cork oak (Quercus suber), it is a plant tissue botanically called phellem, which covers the tree trunk. The main component of cork is suberin.  

What is obtained from cork? 

You already know that cork is extracted from the bark of the cork oak. That is, it is not necessary to cut down the tree to obtain the material, just the bark which will subsequently recover. This process is called 'stripping'.  

Why are the walls of some rooms covered with cork sheeting? 

Cork can help absorb and dissipate sounds to reduce interruptions and improve acoustics in a room. When you have problems with noise in a room in your house, apply cork to the wall as an acoustic insulation measure. Cover the entire walls for best results.  

How to cover a cork wall?
