Faber-Castell pencils are divided into "H" and "B." "H" pencils are harder and produce lighter lines, while "B" pencils are softer and produce darker lines. "F" and "HB" pencils are in the middle. The HB - Faber-Castell pencil has a lead that is a mix between soft and hard; we can say it's the 0 on the scale, leaning towards soft. It is the most used for taking notes as it allows for consistent and clear writing without leaving marks on the paper.
