What is a 1-hole punch used for? 

A paper punch or hole punch is a common office accessory used to make holes in sheets of paper, often for the purpose of binding the sheets with rings. This office accessory, designed for punching holes in sheets of paper, has been with us for over 130 years. That's a long time for a device that we still use and that has barely evolved since its invention. Who created the paper punch? 

In the 1890s, Herman Hollerith created the first card punch that could punch a 12-row by 20-column card, which had to be manually aligned by the operator to punch correctly in any of the 20 columns.
