What is the history of paper?

In ancient Egypt, people wrote on papyrus since before 3000 BC. Papyrus was made from a plant abundant on the banks of the Nile River, Cyperus papyrus, and was the first material to exhibit properties associated with paper.2 Later, in Greco-Roman antiquity, papyrus shared popularity with parchment, which would prevail in Europe during the Middle Ages. Parchment consisted of calf, sheep, goat, or lamb skins tanned with lime3 and prepared to receive ink. However, this process was expensive, so from the 8th century onwards, it was common practice to erase texts from parchments to rewrite on them (giving rise to palimpsests), thus losing an inestimable quantity of creations. https://youtu.be/qb9_acnOLsA
