Paper is a material consisting of a thin sheet made from cellulose pulp,1​ prepared with a paste of ground vegetable fibers suspended in water, generally bleached, and subsequently dried and hardened, to which substances such as polypropylene or polyethylene are usually added to provide special characteristics. The fibers that compose it are bound together by hydrogen bonds. In Ancient Egypt, writing was done on papyrus since before 3000 BC. It was made from a plant very abundant on the banks of the Nile River, Cyperus papyrus, and was the first material to present properties associated with paper.2​ Later, in Greco-Roman antiquity, papyrus shared popularity with parchment, which would prevail in Europe during the Middle Ages. Parchment consisted of calf, sheep, goat, or lamb skins tanned with lime3​ and prepared to receive ink.
