What are Faber-Castell Pencils?
Founded in 1761, Faber-Castell is the world's oldest pencil manufacturer. Choose from the highest quality graphite pencils in a wide variety of designs and colors.
What are they used for?
Their quality and variety of grades have made them a favorite of illustrators and artists. Their lead, glued along the entire length of the pencil, is especially break-resistant. The Castell 9000 is available in 16 degrees of hardness, making it the perfect pencil for technical and artistic applications.
What is the difference between Faber-Castell pencils?
Faber-Castell pencils are divided into "H" and "B" grades. "H" pencils are harder pencils with a light stroke, and "B" pencils are soft pencils with a darker stroke. F and HB pencils are the midpoint between these.
The HB – a Faber-Castell pencil with a lead that is a mix of soft and hard, we can say it is 0 on the scale, leaning towards soft. It is most commonly used for taking notes as it allows for consistent and clear writing without leaving marks on the paper.
A pencil with lead made with more clay mixed with graphite is a more resistant pencil. They are distinguished, on one hand, by the letters H and B, and on the other hand, by a number from 1 to 4, with 4 being the hardest. There can also be combinations of letters: HH, for example, refers to a very hard lead.
